Apply Bostik Never-Seez Marine Grade to all bolt threads prior to installation.
Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Lubricate all of the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install the O-ring seal to nipple assembly (41).
Install nipple assembly (41) and dust cap (42) to valve body assembly (1).
Install O-ring seals to three O-ring plugs (40).
Install three O-ring plugs (40).

Install ball (37), spring (38) and retainer (39) to spool assembly (34).
Use Tooling (A) to install the retaining ring to spool assembly (34).

Install the O-ring seal to O-ring plug (36).
Install spool assembly (34), slug (35) and O-ring plug (36) to valve body assembly (1).
Install spring (33), shims (31) and O-ring seal (32).
Install cover (30), the clip, two bolts (29) and the hard washers. Tighten bolts (29) to a torque of 30 7 N m (22 5 lb ft).

Install the O-ring seal to O-ring plug (28).
Install exhaust valve assembly (27) and O-ring plug (28) to valve body assembly (1).

Install ball (24), spring (25) and retainer (26).
Use Tooling (A) to install the retaining ring to spool assembly (22).

Install the O-ring seal to O-ring plug (19).
Install spring (20) and O-ring plug (19).
Install slug (21), spool assembly (22) and stop (23).

Install O-ring seal (14), cover (13) and two bolts (12) to body (6).
Install O-ring plug (15) and the O-ring seal.
Install selector piston (7), load piston (8), the spacers, shims (9), spring (10) and spring (11).
Install O-ring seal (16), cascade orifice (17), and spring (18).

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Install body (6) and two socket head bolts (5) to valve body assembly (1).

Install cover (4) and the O-ring seal to valve body assembly (1).
Install four bolts (3). Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 30 7 N m (22 5 lb ft).

Install the cartridge assembly and the O-ring seal to valve body assembly (1). Tighten the cartridge assembly to a torque of 50 5 N m (37 3.7 lb ft).
Install solenoid valve (2) to valve body assembly (1). Tighten the locknut to a torque of 9.0 0.5 N m (80 4.4 lb in).
To determine the correct number of shims to use in Step 12, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Torque Converter Lockup Clutch Pilot Pressure - Test and Adjust".
To determine the correct number of shims to use in Step 23, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Torque Converter Lockup Clutch Primary Pressure - Test and Adjust". End By:
Install the lockup clutch and solenoid valve (torque converter). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Lockup Clutch and Solenoid Valve (Torque Converter) - Install".
