Start By:a. separation of torque convertor arrangement from engine Torque convertor arrangement weighs 563 kg (1250 lb). The unit must be properly blocked for correct support. 1. Remove two bolts (1) and manifold (3). Remove three bolts (2) and plate (4). Remove speed sensor (7). Remove bolt (6). Remove joint flange assembly (5). 2. Attach three tools (A) evenly spaced to retarder housing (8). Attach hoist to the retarder housing. The torque convertor arrangement need to be rotated 90°. Place to an appropriate fixture for further disassembly. 3. Remove three bolts (10). Set retarder relief control (9) aside. 4. Remove bolt (12), spacer (13) and gear (11). 5. Mark retarder stator (14) for alignment of bolt holes. Remove eleven bolts (15). 6. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws (16) to the stator to make a separation. After separation, remove the forcing screws. Set the retarder stator aside. Steps 7-8-9 and 10 are required if it is necessary to replace the bearing and inner race bearing to the stator. If not needed, proceed to Step 11. 7. Remove four bolts (17) and bearing retainer (20) for removal of bearing (18) and inner race (19). 8. Place retarder stator (14) to a hydraulic press. Use tool (B) and tool (C) to press inner bearing race and bearing from stator. It is necessary to press against the bearing to remove the inner bearing race. 9. Use tool (B) and tool (D) to install the inner bearing race. 10. Use tool (B) and tool (E) to install the bearing. 11. Remove retarder rotor (21) from retarder housing (8). Steps 12-14 are required if it is necessary to disassemble the retarder rotor. If not needed, proceed to Step 15. 12. Remove retaining ring (22) with tool (F).13. Remove seal ring (24) if necessary.14. Remove ring carrier (23) if necessary. 15. Remove ten bolts (25) (not shown) from retarder housing. Remove retarder housing with hoist. Assembly and connection can be done at this point by reversing the removal and disassembly steps.
