1. Remove and discard the existing latch and pawl. Weld a patch over the hole in the hood.2. Cut three holes inside the glove compartment through the cab front plate. See Illustration 1 for vertical locations of the holes and Illustration 2 for horizontal locations.3. Install bracket (1), using items (2), (3), (4), (5), and (6). See Illustration 2.4. Install spring (7) and latch (9), using items (10), (11), and (12). See Illustration 3. Do not tighten bolts.5. Install spring (17) and washer (18) on rod (16). Insert rod through the far right hole in the glove compartment. Position the cab ventilation hose to clear the release rod. See Illustration 1.6. Install nut (19) and knob (20), and hook rod (16) into lever (13).7. Bolt lever (13) to latch (9) with bolt (14) and nut (15).8. Referring to Illustrations 1 and 4, position the striker (8) as shown. Tack weld the striker.

Illustration 3. Exploded view of all the new parts.9. Check for correct alignment between the striker and latch. If satisfactory, weld a 2 mm (.08") fillet all around.
Illustration 4. Front view showing striker location.10. Adjust position of spring (7) and latch (9) so hood closes positively, but without extra effort. Tighten all hardware.11. Open and close hood to check operation.12. Paint all welded areas.
