The CID 676 diagnostic code is associated with the left track steering lever position sensor.The FMI 04 diagnostic code is activated when the Power Train ECM reads the signal from the sensor as below normal.The possible causes of the diagnostic code are listed below:
The supply circuit (wire C985-BU(Blue)) to the sensor is shorted high.
The signal (wire 828-WH(White)) is shorted to ground.
A sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed. This condition is unlikely.Note: Check for an active CID 0041 FMI 03 diagnostic code. A problem with the 8 VDC supply may cause this diagnostic code to be active. Perform the CID 0041 FMI 03 troubleshooting procedure. Clear the CID 0041 FMI 03 diagnostic code before performing this procedure.Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the CID 676 FMI 04 diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SENSOR
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Ensure that the CID 676 FMI 04 diagnostic code is active.
Disconnect the sensor from the machine harness.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code. Expected Result:The CID 676 FMI 04 FMI 04 diagnostic code remains active. The diagnostic code does not change to an FMI 03 when the sensor is disconnected.Results:
OK - The CID 676 FMI 04 diagnostic code remains active. The diagnostic code does not change to an FMI 03 when the sensor is disconnected. Proceed to test step 2.
NOT OK - The CID 676 FMI 04 diagnostic code is NO longer active. The sensor has failed. The machine harness and the ECM are operating properly.Repair: Replace the sensor and perform the calibration procedure for the position sensors of the steer lever. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Calibration" . Verify that the new sensor corrected the problem.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
The sensor remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the J2 machine harness connector from the Power Train ECM.
At the J1 machine harness connector, measure the resistance from contact J2-24 (wire 828-WH(White)) to ground. Expected Result:The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The Power Train ECM may have failed.Repair: The failed condition of the ECM is unlikely. Recheck the status of the diagnostic code.
