Information:
Be sure the overspeed shutdown operates properly.
1. Check all wiring for grounds. Correct any wiring problems before proceeding and make sure that all connectors and screw terminal block connections are tight.2. Make sure that the fuel and control linkage is free and does not bind.
Oil contamination is a major cause of governor/actuator problems. Ensure use of new, clean oil.
3. Check the Governor/Actuator oil level and fill with SAE 10W30 or 10W40 oil for normal governor operating temperature range of 0 to 99°C (32 to 210°F). For PGEV type governor, fill with oil to a level between lines on sight glass or to line on sight glass (for models with only one line). Add or drain oil. Sump capacity is 1.5 to 1.9 liter (1.6 to 2 U.S. quart).4. The oil level must be checked again immediately after the engine is started and the oil level adjusted to the black line in the sight gauge. To ensure level is correct, after starting engine, move throttle from IDLE position to notch 2 to allow load control pilot valve plunger to change position and fill rheostat cavity. Changing load with the throttle a few times to fill cavity. The cavity is full when oil completely fills area behind indicator glass.Initial Adjustments - PGEV Actuator (If Equipped)
Use the following procedure for engines equipped with the PGEV Type Governor Actuator, when the governor actuator has been replaced or filled with oil.
DO NOT attempt internal adjustment of the governor.
The only requirements for a new or overhauled governor are bleeding entrapped air and adjusting the compensation needle valve to obtain maximum stability. All other adjustments are factory set.5. Operate the engine at IDLE position. Open compensation needle valve several turns to cause the engine to hunt. Allow several minutes of hunting to remove trapped air in the hydraulic circuits. Opening the needle valve alone may not cause the engine to hunt, but manually disturbing the speed setting will induce the governor to move through its full output stroke.6. Close the compensation needle valve gradually until hunting is just eliminated. Keep the valve open as far as possible to prevent sluggish governor response. The needle valve setting may vary from 1/16 to 2 full turns open. Never close needle valve tight, the governor cannot operate properly when this condition exists.7. Check the stability by manually disturbing the governor speed setting. The needle valve adjustment is correct when the governor returns to speed with only a slight over-or undershoot. Once the needle valve adjustment is correct, it is not necessary to change the setting except for large, permanent changes in temperature which affect the governor oil viscosity. Poor governor response or instability is usually an indication that the oil is too thick or too thin. For more specific information pertaining to the governor on your engine, refer to the Service Manual.EGB-P Governor/Actuator Prestart Checks
The engine can overspeed due to improper reassembly or adjustment, which could result in personal injury, or loss of life, and/or property damage.Be prepared to
