Description of Change: New exhaust manifold sections contained within exhaust manifold groups are direct replacements for former exhaust manifold sections. The new manifold sections have been improved by the addition of a port in which to install a temperature sensor. The sensor measures exhaust temperature at the inlet-to-turbo position.Adaptable To: Chart 1 lists the new exhaust manifold sections that are contained within the exhaust manifold groups. The former exhaust manifold sections are also listed. The new exhaust manifold sections are adaptable to first production of the above engines.

The pipe plug may be removed so an exhaust thermocouple can be installed in order to measure the turbocharger inlet temperature.
Earlier manifold sections can be modified in order to install thermocouples. This is accomplished by drilling and tapping a 1/4-18 NPT hole in the rear manifold section just prior to the turbine inlet housing.
For the above marine engines, 4P-4724 and 7E-9473 Exhaust Shield Groups contain the new shield assemblies listed in Chart 2. The new shield assemblies and additional components are direct replacements for the former shield assemblies. The new components are listed in Illustration 9.
