Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin.Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Open access door (1).

Disconnect hose assemblies (2) and (3).

Use Tooling (A) to remove engine oil filter (4). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct procedure.

Remove bolts (5) and oil filter base (6).

Remove plug (8) and O-ring seal (7).
Remove connector (9) and O-ring seal (10).

Remove adapter (11) and O-ring seals (12).

Remove cap (13), valve (14), and O-ring seal (15).
Remove plug (16) and O-ring seal (17).Installation Procedure
Install engine oil filter (4) and oil filter base (6) in the reverse order of removal.
Tighten plug (16) to a torque of 20 3 N.m (177 27 lb in).
Tighten valve (14) to a torque of 20 3 N.m (177 27 lb in).
Tighten adapter (11) to a torque of 175 27 N.m (129 20 lb ft).
Tighten connector (9) to a torque of 175 27 N.m (129 20 lb ft).
Tighten plug (8) to a torque of 20 3 N.m (177 27 lb in).
Tighten engine oil filter (4) to a torque of 90 5 N.m (66 4 lb ft).
