1. Loosen two jam nuts (2).2. Turn adjusting bolts (1) to loosen belt tension.3. Loosen setscrew (3) in bearing collar (4).4. Remove two bolts (6).5. Remove mounting bolts (5) (not shown) from the other bearing.6. Pull bearing (7) and idler roller out the side of the conveyor. Check the other bearing. Replace if necessary. Note location of where bearing is mounted if removed for correct assembly. Note the position of the bearing on the old idler roller. Loosen the setscrews in the bearing collar. Pull the bearing off the shaft.7. Slide the bearing onto the new idler roller shaft.8. Position the bearing. Tighten the setscrews.9. Slide the idler roller shaft onto the bearing still on the conveyor frame. Install the mounting bolts in the other bearing.10. Check that the idler roller is centered in the conveyor frame.11. Tighten the setscrews in the bearing not removed from the conveyor. For installation of the upper conveyor idler rollers (near the head pulley, reverse the removal steps.12. Lubricate the bearing. After installation, follow the steps to adjust the tension of the upper conveyor belt.
Keeping the proper tension in the conveyor belts is important for long belt life, as well as for efficient conveyor operation. If a belt is too tight, nicks and cuts in the belt cover will spread rapidly. The belt will stretch and lose its strength, and the pulley bearings may even fail. If the belt is too loose, the cover that contacts the pulley will wear rapidly due to slippage.
Do not try to remove all the sag from the return side of the belt.
a. Hold adjusting nuts and turn adjusting bolts evenly and alternately.b. Hold adjusting bolts and tighten jam nuts. Do not make large corrections-make a small correction, check operation. Then, if necessary, make another small correction until optimum belt tension is reached.
