Use Tooling (F) and (G) in order to check bearing end play. The bearing end play must be 0.15 0.05 mm (.006 .002 inch). Remove the shims that were installed in step 51 in order to obtain the correct bearing end play, as needed.
Remove the pump adapter from the torque converter housing.

Install two O-ring seals (23) into the pump adapter.
Install the correct amount of shims onto the torque converter housing. The correct amount of shims were determined in step 55.

Use a suitable lifting device and Tooling (B) in order to install adapter (21) on the torque converter housing. Install bolts (22). Torque bolts (22) to 240 40 N m (177 30 lb ft).
When possible, rotate either the torque converter housing or the outer housing in order to ensure that the bearings are properly seated. Use Tooling (D) in order to recheck the bearing end play. Repeat the above procedures, if necessary.
Repeat steps 51 through 59 in order to install the remaining pump adapter.

Install two O-ring seals (18). Turn housing assembly (11) onto the opposite side.

Use the proper equipment to handle bearing cup (17). Lower the temperature of bearing cup (17) and install the bearing cup in the housing.

Apply oil to bearings (16). Install two bearings (16) .

Install idler gear (15) and the shim pack.

Use the proper equipment in order to handle bearing cup (12). Lower the temperature of bearing cup (12) and install the bearing cup in pump adapter (7).

Install pump adapter (7) and seven bolts (8) .
Repeat steps 54 through 60 in order to adjust bearing end play. Install lip seal (13) during step 57.
Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (B) to housing (11). Install the housing on the torque converter. Install five O-ring seals on manifold (10). Install manifold (10) and bolts (9) .
Install eleven bolts (6). Install the speed sensor (hidden) .

Install seal (4) on yoke (1) .

Install yoke (1), retainer (3) and bolt (2) .Note: The following Steps will verify the proper assembly of the torque converter. This should be done before the torque converter is installed into the machine.

Apply air pressure to port (115). The air should flow freely through the torque converter. A blockage exists when the air nozzle is pushed backward. The torque converter will need to be repaired before installation into the machine.

For torque converters with a lockup clutch, apply air pressure to port (116). The lockup clutch should engage. A blockage is present when the lockup clutch does not engage. The torque converter will need to be repaired before installation into the machine.
