Note: Keep engine speed low until the engine oil pressure registers on the gauge or the engine oil pressure indicator light goes out. If the oil pressure does not register or the light does not go out within 10 seconds, stop the engine. Investigate the cause before starting again. Failure to do so can cause engine damage.In warm-weather conditions, start the engine and allow the engine to operate at low idle for at least 5 minutes. In cold-weather conditions, always run the engine at low idle for at least 10 minutes before performing any other operation.Hydraulic System
When you cycle the machine controls, the machine can move suddenly. Contact between the machine and external objects or ground personnel can result in serious injury or death. Before you cycle the machine controls, the machine should be located in an unobstructed, hazard-free work area that is away from external objects and ground personnel.
Perform the engine warm-up as needed prior to performing the hydraulic system warm-up.
Engage the parking brake.
Observe the gauges and the indicators frequently during this operation.
Perform the following operations at either MEDIUM IDLE or HIGH IDLE.
With the implement grounded, hold the lift control to the LOWER position to obtain maximum pressure and flow. This procedure will warm the oil faster than the lift or tilt circuits. Do not hold the lift control in the LOWER position for more than 10 seconds.
Raise the boom to maximum height.
Lower the boom halfway, rack and dump the bucket two times, then lower the implement to the ground.
Repeat Steps 5 through 7 until the hydraulic oil is warm and HYDRAULIC TEMPERATURE NEEDLE STARTS TO MOVE OFF MINIMUM POSITION.
Operate all other hydraulic functions to circulate warm oil through the hydraulic system.
If equipped, cycle third-function implement control in both directions five times.
Release the parking brake and steer the machine left and right five times. Apply service brake as needed.Ensure that all hydraulic system functions are operating correctly before performing any other operations.Warm up time will vary with temperature conditions.Engine Cold Mode
The engine ECM will set the cold start strategy when the coolant temperature is below 20 °C (68 °F).Cold mode operation adjusts the fuel injection timing and the injection duration for white smoke cleanup. The engine will usually exit the cold mode operation before the walk-around inspection is completed.After the cold mode is completed, the engine should be operated at low rpm until normal operating temperature is reached.
