THE MAINFRAME COULD FALL AND CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY. LOWER THE SUPPORT LEGS IF THE CUTTER WILL BE MORE THAN ONE-HALF INCH (1.27 CM) ABOVE GRADE.
2. Start the engine, raise the mainframe to the upper limit, lower the support legs, then shut the engine down. 3. Remove the bolts that connect the cutter drum end assembly to the center drum.4. Attach a lifting device to the drum mount and pull the drum mount, gear reducer and drum end out from under the cutter housing. Lift the assembly and lower it onto the drum end. The gear reducer, drum end and drum mount weigh about 2100 pounds (955 kg). 5. Unbolt the drum mount from the gear reducer and lift the drum mount away.6. Attach a lifting device to the gear reducer and support its weight, remove the bolts that connect the gear reducer to the drum end, then lower the gear reducer to the ground.7. Attach a lifting device to the drum end and lift the drum end off the gear reducer.Installing The Planetary Gear Reducer
1. Position the planetary gear reducer on the ground with the flange up and lift the drum end assembly into position over the gear reducer.2. Attach a lifting device to the gear reducer, lift the gear reducer to the drum end assembly, and install the mounting bolts. The plugs in the gear reducer MUST be located in the notches in the drum end flange so the plugs can be removed.3. Position the drum mount on the gear reducer so the hole in the hub of the gear reducer is at the bottom of the drum mount as shown above, then install the mounting bolts. The total weight of the drum mount, gear reducer and drum end is approximately 2100 pounds (955 kg). 4. Lift the assembly to the cutter, slide it into place, and install the bolts that connect the drum end assembly to the center drum.5. Start the engine, lower the mainframe until the drum mount is correctly positioned against the cutter housing, block up the mainframe, then shut the engine down. 6. Position the links that connect the end plate and drum mount, then install the clevis pins and clips.7. Slide the bearing onto the cutter shaft, install the bearing mounting bolts, then tighten the bearing setscrews. 8. Connect the lubrication hose to the gear reducer.9. Lubricate the splines of the cutter drive shaft, move the spindle into position, and slide the drive shaft into the gear reducer. Turn the spindle so the breather ports are at the top, then install the mounting bolts.10. Move the sheave onto the cutter drive shaft and install the mounting nuts.11. Install the flashing on the end plate.12. Connect the breather hoses to the spindle.
INADVERTENT ENGAGEMENT OF THE CUTTER COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES. DISENGAGE THE CUTTER CLUTCH, SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND TAG THE ENGINE CONTROL BEFORE WORKING ON OR NEAR THE CUTTER ASSEMBLY.
