Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Leave the element in the protective bag as long as possible during installation into the housing. Take extra caution not to introduce contamination onto the end of the filter (yellow cap end) or the filter element. If dirt and debris are introduced to the clean side of the filter, the dirt and debris could result in bearing damage and early hour engine failure.

Ensure that the filter housing end cap is thoroughly cleaned and free of all debris prior to reinstallation. Caterpillar recommends using a precleaned end cap replacement for best cleanliness and efficiency of filter change.
