2. Remove seven cap screws (1).3. Remove end cap (2). 4. Remove seal (3) from end cap (2). Check for damage or wear. Replace if necessary. 5. Place the steering control unit (SCU) on end so internal components will not fall out.6. Remove gerotor housing (4). Lift the housing straight up. 7. Remove seal (5) from gerotor housing (4). Check for wear or damage. Replace if necessary. 8. Remove gerotor (6), spacer (7), drive (8) (not shown) and spacer plate (9) as a unit.

Gerotor housing (4) and gerotor (6) are not serviced separately. 10. Remove seal (10). Check for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.11. Remove spool and sleeve assembly (11) from control housing (12). 12. Remove bearing races (13) and needle thrust bearing (14) from spool and sleeve assembly (11). 13. Remove pin (15) from spool and sleeve assembly (11) (slip fit).14. Separate control spool (16) and control sleeve (17). 15. Remove centering spring kit (18) from control spool (16). Spring kit (18) has six centering springs. 16. Remove retaining ring (19), and remove bushing (20) and seal (21) from control housing (12). 17. Remove seals (22) and (23) from bushing (20). 18. Remove screw (24) from control housing (12).19. Install an 1/8"-34 machine screw into the end of the check ball seat (25). Remove the check ball seat with pliers.
O-ring seals (28) and (29) are different sizes. Note their location on the check ball seat prior to removal. Do not mix when reinstalled.
20. Remove check ball (26) and check ball retainer (27) from the control housing. Remove O-ring seals (28) and (29) from check ball seat (25). Inspect the O-ring seals for wear or damage. Replace if necessary. The following steps are for the assembly of the steering control unit (SCU).
Be sure all parts of the steering control unit (SCU) are clean and free of dirt and debris. Do not use a cloth or paper towel to dry parts. Lint or other material can get into the hydraulic system and cause damage to components. Replace any parts that have scratches or burrs that could result in leakage.
21. Install check ball retainer (27) in control housing (12). Be sure the retainer is straight and not tilted in the bore. Install check ball (26).22. Put a thin coat of 1U-6396 Assembly Compound on O-ring seals (28) and (29) and check ball seat (25). Install the O-ring seals in their original location on the check ball seat. Install the check ball seat in the center housing, using an 1/8"-24 machine screw.23. Install screw (24), and tighten it to a torque of 11 N m (100 lb in). After installation, the screw should be slightly below the outside surface of the center housing.24. Put a thin coat of clean hydraulic oil on control spool (16) and control housing sleeve (17).
