Information:

After setting all valve clearances and before installing the valve cover:1. Start the engine.2. Move the governor control to LOW IDLE position. 3. Watch the top surface on each valve rotator. Each valve rotator should turn slightly each time the valve closes.If a valve fails to rotate, contact your Caterpillar dealer.Differentials, Final Drives and Thrust Pin
Change Oil
1. Remove the differential drain plug. Allow the oil to drain. Clean and install the plug. 2. Position the tractor wheels with the final drive drain plugs at the bottom.3. Remove the plugs. Allow the oil to drain.4. Clean and install the drain plug. 5. Remove the differential fill cap.6. Fill the differential and final drives with lubricant. See "Refill Capacities" chart. Maintain the oil level between the ADD and FULL marks in the sight gauge.7. To speed filling, add oil at the final drives. 8. Position the wheels with drain plug (1) at the bottom.9. Remove fill plug (2) and add oil.10. Fill to the level of the bottom of the fill plug opening.11. Clean and install the final drive fill plugs and differential fill cap.Thrust Pin Clearance Check
Adjust the clearance between the pin and carrier assembly. For the adjustment procedures, see the Service Manual for your machine.Cooling System
Change Coolant
Do not change the coolant until you have read and understand the material in the "Cooling System Specifications" section.
If coolant conditioner maintenance elements have been used regularly, the change period for engine coolant can be extended to 4000 hours or 2 years.When fresh engine coolant consisting of either plain water or water and antifreeze is installed, a precharge element should be installed for use until the first normal element change period. 1. Remove the radiator cap slowly to relieve pressure. 2. Remove the access cover and open the drain valve. Allow the coolant to drain. Close the drain valve. Install the access cover.Clean the Cooling System Relief Valve
Clean or replace the relief valve if the system overheats or loss of coolant is observed. 1. Unlatch and open the hood to gain access to the valve.2. Remove the bolts from the valve and remove the valve assembly. 3. Inspect valve (1), valve seal (2) and gaskets (3). Replace the valve assembly, gasket and seals if they are damaged.4. Inspect the relief valve cover and mounting bolts.5. Install the relief valve cover and mounting bolts.6. Fill the engine radiator with cleaning solution. Use 1 kilogram (2 lb) sodium bisulfate per 40 liters (10 gal) of water.7. Start and run engine for 1/2 hour. Stop engine and drain cleaning solution.8. Flush system with clean water until draining water is clear. Do not run engine while flushing.9. Close drain valve. Fill system with neutralizer. Use a commercially available neutralizer or mix 250 g of sodium carbonate crystals per 40 liters of water (1/2 lb per 10 gal).10. Start and run engine for 10 minutes. Stop the engine and drain neutralizing solution.11. Flush system with clean water, until draining water is clear. Do not run engine while
