The hydraulic fan system is mounted at the rear of the operator station. The hydraulically driven fan is controlled by the Engine ECM and the fan demand valve.The main components of the hydraulic fan system are: Power Train/Chassis ECM (3) , transmission oil temperature sensor (4) , Engine ECM (6) , fan demand valve (7) , hydraulic fan motor (8) , oil cooler (10) , brake and pilot section of the gear pump (12) and hydraulic tank (14) .

As the temperature of the transmission oil increases, the Power Train/Chassis ECM will detect the change in voltage from transmission oil temperature sensor (4) . The Power Train/Chassis ECM sends a signal over the CAT Data Link to the Engine ECM. The Engine ECM will de-energize the solenoid of fan demand valve (7) causing the hydraulic fan motor to operate at full speed. Refer to "Fan Demand Valve" for more information.Fan Demand Valve

When the key start switch is turned to the ON position, the Power Train/Chassis ECM measures the transmission oil temperature. If the temperature of the oil is low, the Power Train/Chassis ECM sends a signal over the CAT Data Link to the Engine ECM. The Engine ECM will energize the solenoid of fan demand valve (7) . When the engine is started, the hydraulic fan motor will operate at a reduced speed. The hydraulic fan motor will increase in speed as the temperature of the transmission oil increases.When the engine is stopped, the Engine ECM will energize the solenoid of fan demand valve (7) for 5 seconds. Energizing the solenoid will prevent over speeding of the hydraulic fan motor due to remaining oil pressure in the circuit.Hydraulic Fan Motor

(8) Hydraulic fan motor (13) Case drainHydraulic fan motor (8) is a gear motor. The hydraulic fan motor is operated by pressure oil from the brake and pilot section of the gear pump. The hydraulic fan motor is directly attached to the fan. The hydraulic fan motor is equipped with an anti-cavitation valve. The anti-cavitation valve allows the hydraulic fan motor to stop gradually when the engine is stopped.The hydraulic fan motor only turns in one direction. The
