Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Operate the machine until the differential oil is warm. Park the machine on a level surface. Lower the bowl.Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

The drain/fill plug for the final drive is located on the wheel hub. The drain/fill plug must be at the lowest point for the drain/fill plug in order to drain the final drive.
Clean the area around the drain/fill plug.
Remove the drain/fill plug. Drain the oil into a suitable container.
Clean the drain/fill plug. Install the drain/fill plug.

The drain plug for the differential is located under the differential. Remove the differential drain plug and drain the oil into a suitable container.
Clean the drain plug. Install the drain plug.

Position each wheel with the drain/fill plug on the centerline of the axle.
Remove the drain/fill plug.
Fill the final drive and fill the differential to the drain/fill plug opening. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacitities (Refill)" and the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for further information.
Clean the drain/fill plug. Install the drain/fill plug.
Add oil to the final drive if oil is needed. Oil should be dripping out of the filler hole when the final drive is full of oil.
