Introduction
The boom kickout valve makes sure that the boom does not raise past vertical. When the boom is near vertical, the crossmember on the boom should be in contact with the plunger. The plunger will activate the boom kickout valve and the winch should stop.Test Procedure
Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel.
Allow only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine or in the view of the operator.
Place the transmission in the NEUTRAL position.
Engage the parking brake.
Run the engine in the LOW IDLE position.
Slowly raise the boom.Note: As the boom nears vertical, the crossmember on the boom should contact the plunger. The plunger should actuate the boom kickout valve and the winch should stop turning.
If the winch does not stop, perform the adjustment procedure.Adjustment Procedure

(1) Valve (2) Plunger (3) Left pipelayer frame (4) Bolts (A) 13 cm (5.1 inch)
Remove the cover plate from left pipelayer frame (3) .
Loosen bolts (4) that mount valve (1) to the frame. Valve (1) should be able to move freely through slotted holes in the mounting bracket.
Adjust valve (1) so that dimension (A) is 13 cm (5.1 inch). This is the distance between the roller on valve (1) and plunger (2) .
Tighten bolts (4) .
Repeat the test procedure. If the winch does not stop, move the valve 2 mm (0.08 inch) closer to the plunger.
Repeat step 5 until the winch stops when the boom nears vertical.
