3500 Machine Engines With EUI (ADEM I)
New software for the 3500 EUI engine is only available through the purchase of a new Personality Module from the Caterpillar Parts System. The part number for the personality module can be found on the outside of the personality module chip or by connecting the Electronic Technician service tool and viewing the initial connection screen. If this personality module part number is ordered and it has been canceled and replace by a new number, the new part number and any associated iron will be displayed through the parts ordering system. The part number for the personality module can also be found using the Technical Marketing Information System (TMI). TMI is part of the Caterpillar Network System. Personality Module part numbers are found in the GKN401 TMI - GENERAL ENGINE DATA application which can is found in the main TMI menu. The part number can be found in the 2T or 0T Specification category. Chart A identifies the steps required to get the Personality Module part number from TMI.
Personality Module part numbers can also be found in the parts manual for each specific machine. The part number will be listed in the index under the label CONTROL GP. The parts manual should not be used if TMI is available due the fact that the part number may have changed since the parts manual went to print.
3500B Machine Engines (ADEM II)
The 3500B Personality Module uses a "flash" memory chip. The ECM has the capability to reprogram the flash memory chip internally using a process called flash downloading. For flash downloading, only the software file is required and it can be "flashed" onto the existing Personality Module. Therefore, software for the 3500B Machine Engines can be serviced in two ways with different part numbers: 1. Purchasing a new Personality Module with the correct software preprogrammed.2. With the software part number, download the software onto the existing engine Personality Module. FLASH downloading will be discussed in more detail later in this article.
Software Flash File And Personality Module Part Numbers
The best place to find Personality Module and Software part numbers is the TMI system. They are found in the GKN401 TMI - GENERAL ENGINE DATA application, found in the main TMI menu. The part number can be found in the 2T or 0T Specification category of the General Engine Data. Chart B identifies the required to get the part number from TMI.
Software Files
Current software flash file part numbers are available in the DTSO FIND application as part of the Caterpillar Network System. This system lists the current machines with "B" series engines and the associated software flash file part numbers.
The Personality Module with software can be ordered through the Caterpillar Parts System. The software file itself is NOT available through the Caterpillar Part System, but there are two methods that have been established to get the software files.
