Machine ECM
The following is a list of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that are associated with the parameter programming of the Machine ECM and Engine ECM.
Table 1
Machine ECM (MID 39)
DTC Description System Response
268-2 Programmed Parameter Fault: Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect Backhoe Loader models have multiple engine options corresponding to a single serial number prefix. Programming both the "Product ID" and "Engine Configuration Code" are necessary to define the machine configuration fully. If either the machine variant or engine variant cannot be identified, the system inhibits operation of the machine. Possible causes for an FMI 2 diagnostic code are:
A valid Product ID has not been properly programmed into the Machine ECM.
The Engine ECM configuration code was not properly programmed in the ECM.
Incorrect software is installed on an ECM.
If an ECM was recently replaced, the wrong unit may have been installed.
The ECM may be faulty.Note: When this code is active, the operator/technician will not be able to start the machine, operate the implements, or engage the transmission.Engine Configuration Code Table
The Engine Configuration Code (ECC) takes the form of a two-digit numeric value. Each value represents a particular engine model, engine power, and emission tier as defined in the table below:

Note: Prior to beginning this procedure, inspect the harness connectors involved in this circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure, and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that the diagnostic code is active before performing a troubleshooting procedure. For sensors powered via the fuse panel, check the condition of the appropriate fuse before beginning the troubleshooting procedure.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Identify The Active DTC Code Associated With The Suspect Circuit
Code present. FMI 2 diagnostic code, proceed to Test Step 2.
Begin Process For FMI 2 Troubleshooting HERE
2. Confirm The Correct Product ID Is Programmed For The Machine ECM
Note: The "Product ID" is the same number as the machine serial number. The number consists of the machine serial number prefix followed by a five-digit number, specific to the machine.
A. Use Cat®"Electronic Technician" (Cat®ET) to confirm that the "Product ID" programmed into the Machine ECM matches the current stored "Product ID". The programmed "Product ID" matches the stored "Product ID" for the Machine ECM. OK - The programmed "Product ID" matches the stored "Product ID" for the Machine ECM.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - Use CatET to program the correct "Product ID" for the Machine ECM. (Manually cycle the key switch after programming is complete.)
Proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Verify The Engine Configuration Code (ECC)On The Machine ECM
Note: The Transmission subsystem relies on
