Improper lifting and improper tie-downs can allow the load to shift or fail and cause injury or damage. Use only properly rated cables and slings with lift and tie down points provided.Follow the instructions in Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lifting and Tying Down the Machine" for the proper technique for securing the machine. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Specifications" for specific weight information.

Use properly rated cables and properly rated slings for lifting. For a machine with a bucket, position the slings beneath the front of the track and beneath the rear of the track. For a machine without a bucket, position the slings beneath the front of the track and beneath the rear of the track. For a machine with a ripper, position the slings beneath the front of the track and beneath the rear of the track.
On sharp corners, use corner protectors. The crane should be positioned so that the machine may be lifted in a level plane. The spreader bars should be wide enough to prevent contact with the machine.
Tie-downs:
Front tie-down: Use the eye of the front tie-down.
Side tie-downs: Use the inside edge of the track shoe.
Rear tie-downs: Use the outer edge of the track shoe.Check the state and local laws that govern the following load characteristics.

Before installing the lifting device on the machine, set the parking brake and set the engine to the off position. All four of the lifting eyes must be used at the same time to lift the machine. The lifting devices should be installed as vertically as possible. Spreaders should be used in the appropriate position to avoid contact with machine components. Ensure that all people are away from the machine. The tracks can cause damage to the lifting device. A chain should be used for the bottom of your lifting system. Check the condition of the lifting eyes before every lift. If one or more of the lifting eyes are damaged consult your Caterpillar dealer. The combined maximum capacity of the four lifting eyes is 30000 kg (66138 lb). Do not exceed the maximum lifting capacity of the lifting eyes.Note: The four lifting eyes are not designed for towing.
