General Information
The water spray system distributes water to the drum. Water is sprayed on the drum to prevent asphalt from sticking during paving operations. The drum is equipped with two spray bars. The spray bars are mounted above the drum. The machine electronic control system allows the water spray system to operate continuously or intermittently.The electrical portion of the water spray system consists of the following components:
Machine ECM
Fuses and relays
Propulsion lever
Operator display
Keypad
Two electric pump and motor groupsThe water spray system is made up of the following components:
Water tank
Drain valves
Water filter
Front and rear spray barsThe water spray system section of this presentation is divided into segments. The first segments show the location of components on the machine that are part of the water spray system. A brief discussion of each component is provided in these segments.The final segment explains the operation of the water spray electrical system. A water spray electrical schematic is used in this segment to trace current through the system.

The red and blue lines indicate two-way communication.Machine ECM (1) monitors input signals from keypad (6) and propulsion lever (7).The water spray enable switch is on keypad (6). The machine ECM also uses direction input from the propulsion lever in the control logic for the water spray system. The propulsion lever sends input from the water spray enable switch to machine ECM (1) through the controller area network communication lines.Keypad (6) contains several control switches for the water spray system. The keypad communicates with machine ECM (1) through the controller area network communication lines.Machine ECM (1) monitors and evaluates input signals from keypad (6) for the water mode switch and the water timer switches. The ECM determines if an output should be sent to spray pump one relay (2) or spray pump two relay (5).Machine ECM (1) uses display (8) to provide information to the operator about the water spray system during operation.
