****Affected Product****
1) Place the machine on flat, level ground.
2) Fully retract the stick cylinder rod and VA boom cylinder rod. Adjust the position of the bucket so that the bucket is parallel to the ground. Lower the stub boom until the bucket is flat on the ground.
3) Stop the engine.
4) Release the pressure in the stub boom, fore boom and stick hydraulic circuits. Refer to Testing and Adjusting Manual, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release", RENR9905 for the 324D, RENR7235 for the 325D and 329D.
5) Remove the 255-5662 Pilot Relief Valve Group (marked with "38") from the 308-6964 Pilot Valve Group and replace with a 3526816/">352-6816 Pilot Relief Valve Group (marked with "VDMN" and/or "38MN").
6) Tighten the 3526816/">352-6816 Pilot Relief Valve Group to a torque of 95 +/- 14 Nm.
7) Start the engine.
8) Slowly move the joystick to raise the stub boom and lift the bucket 1 meter off the ground. Lower the bucket back down to the ground using the fore boom hydraulic circuit. Raise and lower the fore boom in this way for 10 cycles in order to purge the air.

The 308-6964 Pilot Valve Group needs to be reworked on the products listed below. During cold ambient conditions, the existing 308-6964 Pilot Valve Group can allow un-piloted movement of the fore boom of the variable angle boom which may result in personal injury or death. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 05Jan2010 when scheduling this service.
