(13) Bull gear The final drives are a combination of a single spur gear reduction and a planetary gear system.The final drives transmit the power from the electric drive propulsion module to the tracks. Input shaft (1) is splined on both ends. The spline on one end of the input shaft fits into the carrier of the electric drive propulsion module. The spline on the other end of the input shaft fits into pinion gear (2) of the final drive.The rotation of the propulsion module will cause input shaft (1) to transmit power through the final drives. Input shaft (1) turns pinion gear (2). The pinion gear turns bull gear (13). Bull gear (13) causes sun gear (9) to turn. Ring gear (6) is held stationary. Movement of sun gear shaft (9) causes planetary gears (10) to move around inside ring gear (6). Rotation of planetary gears (10) causes the following items to turn: planetary carrier (8), ring gear housing (7) and sprocket hub (11). Sprocket segments (5), which are connected to sprocket hub (11), then drive the track.The final drives have a separate supply of lubrication. There is a filler plug and a drain plug in planetary carrier (8). A drain plug is also in the bottom of final drive case (12) in order to drain the oil from the area of bull gear (13).
