Remove Pinion
If the alternative method of input clutch removal was used, the cage (1), bearing (2) and gear (2) have already been removed.1. Remove the bearing cage (1) and shims that give support to the pinion shaft. Keep the shims with cage for installation.2. Remove bolt (4) and plate (5) from shaft. 3. Install tooling (A) on gear (3) and remove bearing (2) and gear (3) from shaft. 4. Remove bolts (6). Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws in cage and loosen cage assembly (7) from case. 5. Remove shaft (8) from cage and gear. 6. Remove bolt (10) and washer (9) from shaft. 7. Remove pinion gear (11) from retainer assembly (12). 8. With a press and tooling (B), remove bearing from retainer (12).Install Pinion
1. Install bearing (1) in retainer (2) with tooling (A) until it is in the bottom of the counterbore seat. 2. Put washer (4) in position on shaft (5) and install bolt (3). Tighten bolt to a torque of 55 7 N m (41 5 lb.ft.). 3. Put pinion gear (6) in position in the retainer assembly. 4. Install shaft (5) in the retainer and pinion assembly. 5. Install two 3/8"-16 NC guide bolts in case and install shims and retainer and pinion assembly. 6. Heat bearing (7) to a temperature of 135°C (275°F) and install gear (8) and bearing on pinion shaft.7. Install pinion shaft cover.
