Introduction
This entire Special Instruction should be read and understood before any work on the engine is begun.Note: Improper assembly will result in premature failure of the sealing system. This Special Instruction gives the installation instructions for the 160-9874 Gasket Kit . Ensure that the proper color and the proper part number of the seals are positioned in the appropriate grooves in the 197-9322 Cylinder Liner and the 159-9778 Cylinder Liner . Also ensure that the proper lubricants are used.Required Tools

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Check the cylinder liner projection. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Cylinder Liner Projection - Inspect".

Check for erosion on the tapered portion of the bore for each cylinder liner on the cylinder block. Refer to Illustration 1. Refer to GUIDELINE FOR REUSABLE PARTS AND SALVAGE OPERATIONS, SEBF8371, "SALVAGE OF CYLINDER BLOCK LINER BORES FOR 3400, C15, AND C18 FAMILY OF ENGINES".
Apply Tooling (A) on the ring grooves of the cylinder liner and the liner seals.

(1) Groove for 9L-5854 Filler Band (Black) (2) Groove for 142-7072 Liner Seal (COOLANT) Purple (3) Groove for 110-2220 Liner Seal (MID) Orange (4) Groove for 142-6217 O-Ring Seal (OIL) Dark Blue
Install the purple 142-7072 Liner Seal (Coolant) in the groove (2) in the cylinder liner.
Install the orange 110-2220 Liner Seal (Middle) in the groove (3) in the cylinder liner.
Install the dark blue 142-6217 O-Ring Seal (OIL) in the groove (4) in the cylinder liner.
After the installation of the liner seals, reapply Tooling (A) on the liner seals and to the bottom of the liner.
Place the black 9L-5854 Filler Band completely in clean engine oil for a moment. Install the filler band in the groove (1) under the cylinder liner flange without delay. Install the cylinder liner into the cylinder block immediately, before the filler band expands.

Use Tooling (B) to install cylinder liner (1) in the cylinder block. Ensure that any marks in relation to the cylinder liner projection are in alignment.Note: Refer to Special Instruction, SEHS9564 for more information about cylinder liner installation.
