EXCAVATOR,
Information:
Steering Wheel Free Play
With the engine stopped, the steering wheel should move freely approximately two degrees clockwise and two degrees counterclockwise. The torque needed to do this should be 2.9 N m (26 lb. in.) or less.Pressure Test Of Steering System
Loosen the filler cap on the tank to permit the pressure in the tank to go down before installation or removal of any test equipment. To prevent personal injury, make reference to on first page of STEERING SYSTEM TESTING AND ADJUSTING section.
Main Relief Valve
HYDRAULIC PUMP
1. Plug.1. Remove plug (1) and install 8L6557 Connector.2. Connect 6V3081 Hose Assembly to the connector and install 7S8714 Pressure Gauge [0 to 28 000 kPa (0 to 4000 psi)] on the hose assembly.3. Start the engine and operate it at high idle.4. Look at the pressure gauge and turn the steering wheel all the way to the right or left. The high reading on the gauge is the setting of the relief valve. The correct setting of the relief valve is 17 300 kPa (2500 psi).
FLOW CONTROL VALVE
2. Relief valve.
FLOW CONTROL VALVE
3. Plunger. 4. Connector5. If the relief pressure setting is too low or high, remove connector (4) and plunger (3). Add shims to the spring chamber of plunger (3) if the setting is too low and subtract shims if too high. The shims are part of 6S7761 Control Valve Kit.Remove Air From The Brake System
(Bleed the Brakes)
In order to decrease a spongy pedal feel or a longer than normal pedal stroke because of air in the brake system, the system must be opened (bled). Air in the master cylinder will be removed (bled) first then the brake calipers.
Make reference to warning on first page of HYDRAULIC SYSTEM TESTING AND ADJUSTING section.
Master Cylinder (For Four Wheel Brake System)
BRAKE CONTROL GROUP (FOUR WHEEL BRAKE SYSTEM)
1. Master cylinder. 2. Hose. 3. Hose. 4. Hydraulic tank. 5. Bleeder screw. 6. Bleeder screw.1. Stop the engine.2. Loosen the clamp and disconnect hose (3) from master cylinder (1). Cover the end of hose (3) and fill hydraulic tank (4) to the correct level. Open the end of hose (3) into a container of brake fluid until a flow of fluid without air comes out. Connect hose (3) to the master cylinder and tighten the clamp. Fill tank (4) to the correct level again. Hydraulic tank (4) has two chambers (an inner and outer). It is possible to drain the inner chamber and not see a big drop in fluid level if the level is seen from the side. This means the fluid level should be seen from the top of the tank during the bleed procedure.3. Do Step 2 again for hose (2).4. Fasten one end of a 6.4 mm (.25 in.) diameter clear (transparent) hose to bleeder screw (6). Put the other end of the hose in a container of brake fluid and loosen bleeder screw (6).5. Slowly push the brake pedal and look for air bubbles in the fluid and the hose; hold the pedal down.
