PROBLEM
Certain 0R0997, 0R1000, 0R1001, 0R1002, 0R1003, 0R1004, 0R1005, and 0R1006 Reman water pumps were discovered to have the cup plug installed up to 3 mm too deep into the housing. This could cause the weep hole to be blocked. If this issue is not corrected, coolant may accumulate inside the weep chamber and bypass the oil seal causing contaminated engine oil.
ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect the 0R0997, 0R1000, 0R1001, 0R1002, 0R1003, 0R1004, 0R1005, and 0R1006 in dealer parts stock.
Inspection Procedure:
1. Inspect the package date code on the outside of the water pump box. (Image 1) The first nine characters of the date code indicates Month, Day, Year. Disregard the last four digits of the date code. Determine if the date code falls between D09M03Y09 and D24M03Y09 (09 March 2009 thru 24 March 2009).
- If the date code on the package IS between D09M03Y09 and D24M03Y09 (09 March 2009 thru 24 March 2009), proceed to step 2.
- If the date code on the package IS NOT between D09M03Y09P68HL and D24M03Y09P68HL (09 March 2009 thru 24 March 2009), mark the package to indicate the part has been inspected according to PI7#### / REBE5166 and return the part to dealer parts stock. No further rework is needed on these parts.
2. Remove the water pump from the packaging and inspect the cup plug installed in the water pump housing.
