Display Area Of The Caterpillar Monitoring System
The display area is showing the following diagnostic code: MID 082, CID 0353 and FMI 01
(4) First display. (5) Module identifier (MID). (6) Diagnostic code indicator. (7) Second display. (8) Component identifier (CID). (9) Failure mode identifier (FMI).
Use the following procedure to troubleshoot the diagnostic code information. Connect the 4C-8195 Control Service Tool to the service connector that is located behind the access panel in the right rear of the cab.
Place the Caterpillar Monitoring System in service mode (mode 3). In order to place the Caterpillar Monitoring System in service mode, press and hold the mode switch of the control service tool. Release the mode switch when "-3-" is shown on the display. Note: The diagnostic scrolling mode may be entered in order to see the diagnostic codes, but the diagnostic codes can be more easily diagnosed by using the service mode. The service mode allows the diagnostic codes to be placed on hold for further investigation. The service mode also allows the diagnostic codes to be cleared when the problem has been fixed.
A diagnostic code is displayed and the diagnostic code is on hold at this time. The display toggles between showing MID (5) and CID (8) and FMI (9). When you are in the service mode and there are no diagnostic codes, screen (4) shows "---" only.
In order to view all the diagnostic codes, scroll through the diagnostic codes. In order to scroll through the diagnostic codes, press and hold the scroll switch of the control service tool. The display momentarily shows MID (5), CID (8) and FMI (9) for each diagnostic code. The word "End" is shown after the last diagnostic code in the list.
Place the desired diagnostic code on hold. In order to place the diagnostic code on hold, release the scroll switch when the desired diagnostic code is shown.
The MID will indicate the ECM that is generating the diagnostic code. If the MID is not 082, use Table 1 in order to determine the ECM that has detected the fault. Then see the service manual module for that electronic control.

Observe diagnostic code indicator (6). In service mode, the diagnostic code indicator functions as a fault present indicator.
If diagnostic code indicator (6) shows "SERV CODE", then the fault that caused the diagnostic code that is shown is currently present.
If diagnostic code indicator (6) is OFF, then the fault that caused the diagnostic code that is shown is not present at this time.
Refer to the test procedure in Troubleshooting and Testing and Adjusting in order to troubleshoot the diagnostic code.
After a diagnostic code is corrected, clear the diagnostic code. In order to clear the diagnostic code, momentarily press
