Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Inspect all O-rings, seals, and gaskets for wear and damage. Replace if necessary.
Ensure that the mating surfaces of the engine block, flywheel housing, front drive housing, and oil pan are clean. All mating surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of any oil before Tooling is applied.Note: The oil pan and oil pan gasket must be assembled to the block within 10 minutes of RTV application.Note: Read steps 1 - 4 before beginning sealant application.

Example of a puzzle joint.
Apply Tooling (B) between the gasket and the oil pan to hold the gasket in place during assembly. Do Not apply sealant at eight puzzle joints (Y) or T-joints (W) and (X).
Apply Tooling (C) to all T-joint locations (W) and (X). The bead should cover the entire span of the T-joint and have a constant cross section of 3 – 5 mm (.12 - .20 in).

Offset to block side.
If, there is an offset at the gasket (14) between the block (15) and either housing (16) apply Tooling (C) to the lower side of the misaligned parts. Sealant shall have a cross section height of 3 – 5 mm (.12 -.20 in) and be placed perpendicular to the existing T-jont bead. The new bead shall extend no further than distance (V), 12 mm (0.47 inch) before the next bolt hole location. The existing bead is not shown in the above images to illustrate misalignment.
