Change The Oil
1. Position one final drive with oil drain plug (1) at the bottom. Refer to the General Hazard Information section for information on Containing Fluid Spillage.2. Remove drain plug (1) and level plug (2). Allow the oil to drain into a container.3. Clean the plugs and inspect the O-ring seals. Replace them if they are worn or damaged.4. Install drain plug (1).5. Fill the final drive to bottom of level plug (2) opening. See Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities.6. Install level plug (2).7. Perform Steps 1-6 on the other final drive using a different container for the oil so the final drive oil samples will be separate.8. Completely remove oil spilled onto surfaces.9. Start the engine and allow the final drives to run through several cycles.10. Stop the engine. Check the oil level.11. Check the drained oil for metal chips or particles. If there are any, contact your Caterpillar dealer.12. Dispose drained material according to local regulation.Hydraulic System
Change Oil And Screen
1. Place the machine on level ground and lower the bucket to the ground with the stick vertical. 2. Open the access door on the right side of the machine.3. Clean the pump, hydraulic lines and hydraulic tank. 4. Relieve the internal pressure from the hydraulic tank by loosening the fill/vent plug. After the pressure is relieved, remove the plug. 5. The oil drain valve is located under the hydraulic tank.6. Remove the hydraulic tank access cover from under the upper structure. 7. Remove the oil drain valve plug. Refer to the General Hazard Information section for information on Containing Fluid Spillage.8. Install a pipe (with 1-11 1/2 NPSM threads) and hose to open drain valve. Drain the oil into a container.9. Remove the pipe to close the drain valve.10. Inspect the O-ring and replace it if it is worn or damaged.11. Clean and install the plug. 12. Remove the plug from tube and the allow oil to drain into a container.13. Inspect the O-ring and replace it if it is worn or damaged.14. Clean the plug. Install the plug and O-ring into the drain port.15. Change the screen. Removal and installation procedures are the same for changing the screen as is given for cleaning the screen in the Every 500 Service Hours or 3 Months section.16. Fill the hydraulic system oil tank. See Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities.17. Inspect the fill/vent plug O-ring for damage. Replace if necessary. Clean and install the fill/vent plug. 18. Remove the pressure cap.19. Inspect and clean the pressure cap. Replace it if it is damaged.20. Install the pressure cap. 21. When the hydraulic oil has been replaced, remove air from the hydraulic system as follows: No attempt should be made to start the engine until the pump has been filled with hydraulic oil, or serious damage can be caused to hydraulic components.* With the
