Be sure the rubber in pins (53) that hold the shafts in the carrier is not damaged. If the rubber is damaged, a replacement of the pins must be made.
37. Install spring pins (53) in the planet carrier and shafts. 38. Use tooling (A) and a press to install bearing (56) in shaft (55) 2.25 0.25 mm (.088 .010 in.) below the surface of shaft (55). The inside diameter of bearing (56) after assembly must be 25.394 0.039 mm (.9997 .0015 in.).39. Install bearing (54) on shaft (55). Make sure the notch in the bearing is in alignment with the dowel on the shaft. 40. If the orifice on the other end of shaft (55) was removed, install it 1.25 0.25 mm (.050 .010 in.) below the surface of the shaft. Install carrier (47) on the bearing and shaft (55). 41. Put plate (57) in position in gear (58). 42. Install retainer ring (59) on carrier (47).43. Use two screwdrivers to put retainer ring (59) under compression. Install shaft and carrier (47) in gear (58). Make sure the retainer ring is in the correct position in the groove of gear (58). 44. Install gear (60) on the shaft. 45. Install hub (61) on the shaft. 46. Use tool (E) to install snap ring (62) on the shaft. 47. Install shaft (55) and carrier assembly in the transmission as a unit. Bottom plate of plates (46) was installed in Step 34. See Illustration B5132P1 for the location of the tangs on the plates.48. Install three disc assemblies (63) and two more plates (46). Start with a disc assembly and end with a disc assembly.49. Install three springs (64) on the rods. 50. Install plate (65) on the housing. 51. Put plate (67) in position in gear (68). Install retainer ring (66).52. Put gear (68) in position on the carrier. 53. Install four disc assemblies (69) and three plates (70) in the gear. Start with a disc assembly and end with a disc assembly. 54. On earlier models, if seal carrier (71) was removed, heat seal carrier (71) to a temperature of 135° to 165°C (280° to 330°F) for ten minutes. Install seal carrier (71) on housing (72). Make sure the groove (slot) of the seal carrier is in alignment with the hole in the housing. Install the spring pin in the housing. 55. Install O-ring seal and seal (75) and seal ring (76) on piston (77). Install seal ring (76) with the lip toward the housing assembly. Put clean transmission oil on the seals.56. Install piston (77) in housing assembly (74). Put coupling (73), spacers (80) and spring (78) in position in housing assembly (74). 57. Use tool (F) and a press to put spring (78) under compression until snap ring (79) can be installed on coupling (73) with tool (E).
