Troubleshooting Steps Values Results
1. Identify and Correct a Short
A. Identify the connectors and wire numbers of the suspect circuits(1).
B. Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
C. Disconnect the component and ECM from the harness.
D. Place a calibrated digital multimeter in the 200 Ω range.
E. Turn on the digital multimeter.
F. Contact the connector of the suspected faulty wire with one multimeter probe.
G. With the other multimeter probe, check for continuity across all other wires in the same harness.
Check all wires for continuity across the frame or ground.
Resistance is ≥ 5 Ω
OK - Resistance is ≥ 5 Ω.
The harness is not shorted.
STOP
Not OK - Resistance is < 5 Ω.
The harness is shorted.
Repair:
Repair or replace the harness.
STOP
