Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the hydraulic cylinder from the bottom of the machine. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, RENR2808, "Undercarriage Cylinder (Adjustable Guage) - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Unscrew the head (2) from the cylinder (1) in order to remove the rod (3) that is attached to the piston.

Remove the seals (4), (5), (7), and (9) from the head (2). Locations of the seals are shown in Illustration 2.
Remove the rings (6) and (8) from the head (2). Locations of the rings are shown in Illustration 2.

Disconnect the nut (10) from the rod (3) in order to remove the piston (11) .
Remove the ring (12) and the seal assembly (13) from the piston (11). Locations of the ring and the seal assembly are shown in Illustration 2.
