Procedure
Update to the latest version of Cat ET. Version 2015C or higher is required.
Perform Step 2.a through Step 2.d to save the Engine Configuration File data before replacing the Engine ECM.
Connect the electronic service tool to the diagnostic connector.
From the menu bar, go to the following menu options:
Service
Copy Configuration
ECM Replacement
Click "Load From ECM" at the bottom of the screen.
Once the ECM data has been loaded, click "Save to File" at the bottom of the screen. Select a folder location, and click "Save".
Replace the Engine ECM.
Flash the latest Flash File available for the Engine ECM. Perform Step 4.a through Step 4.e to flash program a flash file using "WinFlash".
Obtain the software part number for the new flash file.Note: If you do not have the part number for the flash file, use the "Flash File Search" tool on the Service Technician Workbench (STW). Alternatively, use the "Flash Software Files" feature on SIS Web.Note: You must have the engine serial number to search for the part number of the flash file.
Connect the electronic service tool to the diagnostic connector.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Select "WinFlash" from the "Utilities" menu on the electronic service tool.
Flash program the flash file into the ECM:
Select the engine ECM under the "Detected ECMs".
Press the "Browse" button to select the part number of the flash file that will be programmed into the ECM.
When the correct flash file is selected, press the "Open" button.
Verify that the "File Values" match the application. If the "File Values" do not match the application, search for the correct flash file.
When the correct flash file is selected, press the "Begin Flash" button.
The electronic service tool will indicate when flash programming has been successfully completed.
Load the Engine Configuration Data. From the menu bar go to the following menu options:
Service
Copy Configuration
ECM Replacement
Click "Load From File" at the bottom of the screen.
Select the correct ECM replacement file. Check that the date and time stamp matches that of the desired replacement file and click "OK".
Click "Program ECM" at the bottom of the screen.
Once the "Programming Complete" dialog box appears on-screen, click "OK".
Access the "Configuration" screen under the "Service" menu to determine the parameters that require programming.
Start the engine and check for proper operation. Check that there are no active diagnostic codes.Note: Go to SIS Web to make sure that the new Flash File part number is still the latest Flash File part number. A newer Flash File part number may be available. SIS Web only displays the latest available flash file. The new software is available in the form of a flash file through Caterpillar Service Information System (SIS).
