Information:

Whatever tank you use, it must be completely clean. Never use the same tank for both pressure lubrication and for checking fuel flow. It is not possible to get the tank clean enough for both operations. Having any amount of dirt or debris left in the tank during fuel flow checks risks fuel nozzle failure.
Adjust the air pressure regulator to 240 35 kPa (35 5 psi). The air pressure must not exceed this amount at any time.
Consult the Lubrication and Maintenance Guide for your engine model to determine the correct engine crankcase oil capacity level. Use 30% of this amount of oil in the tank for the pressure lubrication. You may need to fill the tank more than once.
Use the necessary fittings and hose to connect the tank to the main oil gallery of the cylinder block. For 1100 and 3100 Series Engines and 3208 Engines remove the plug at the rear of the right side cylinder head and connect the tank and engine as shown in Illustration 1. For 3406 Engines remove any one of the plugs on the right side of the cylinder block and connect the pressure lubrication equipment. See Illustration 2.

Illustration 2. Remove any one of the plugs from the right side of the cylinder block for 3406 Engines.Connect the shop air pressure to the tank to force the oil from the reservoir into the main oil gallery and engine lubrication passages. If you don't have shop air pressure, use a tank that has a hand pump with the capability of moving the oil.
After you complete the pressure lubrication, shut off the air pressure and disconnect the equipment. Be sure to reinstall the plug on the engine. Add the remainder of the necessary crankcase oil. Remember that the engine now contains 30% of the required amount.
Before you start the engine, turn the engine a few revolutions with the governor control in the "Fuel Off" position to circulate the oil within the engine.
This pressure lubrication procedure is also detailed in a Special Instruction, Form No. SMHS7701, which is packaged with each Caterpillar Remanufactured Engine and Short Block for convenient reference.
