For Replacement of 9L9870, 8M8403, 3N1168, 4N8140, 4N4572 and 6N5373 Governor Spring Guides.The 6V22 Tool Group can be used to make a replacement of a worn governor spring guide. Make a thorough inspection of the governor housing to be sure it can be used again; then, if governor housing can be used again, use the procedure given in this instruction to remove the worn guide and install a new one. The components in the 6V22 Tool Group are shown on page 2. In addition to the tool group, a small hydraulic press is also needed.Components Of 6V22 Tool Group
Components of the 6V22 Tool Group are as follows: 1 - 6V17 Pilot, 2 - 6V21 Pin, 3 - 6V20 Pin, 4 - 6V19 Adapter, 5 - 6V18 Adapter, 6 - 6V23 Adapter.Removal Of Worn Governor Spring Guide
1 Disassemble the governor. See the Service Manual. 2 Put the deep counterbore end of 6V17 Pilot (1) over the worn guide on the inside of the governor housing. [Pilot (1) will give support to the center of the governor housing when the hydraulic press is used to remove the worn governor spring guide.]3 Use 6V19 Adapter (2) with the hydraulic press as shown, and remove the worn guide.Installation Of New Governor Spring Guide
1 Put the correct pin (1) (see chart above right) in guide (2), then put guide (2) in the shallow (not deep) counterbore end of 6V17 Pilot (3). Stem (A) of the guide to be up as shown. 2 Put governor housing (4) on pilot (3) so stem (A) of guide (2) is in alignment with the guide hole in the housing. Put 6V23 Adapter (5) on governor housing (4) so hole (B) is in alignment with the guide hole in the housing. Use the press as shown to push governor housing (4) on the guide. 3 Use 6V18 Adapter (6) with the press, to swage (change shape of) the end of stem (A), as shown at location (C), in the chamfer of the bore in the governor housing.
Do not use more than 2,000 lbs. (8900 N) force to swage the end of the guide.
4 Assemble the governor; see the Service Manual.
