2. Download the flash files to your PC for updating the PL641 radio and PLE601 Network Manager:

Note: When installing a PL241 the firmware should be updated remotely through cellular communication (Flash Over The Air - FOTA). Create a System Technology Service Request and submit to Caterpillar to perform an over the air firmware update.
At the machine:
3. Perform installation instructions (see Image 1.1.1 above) for the 2G-3G upgrade from a legacy Product link device to a 3G radio system. Carefully check the required parts listed under each group. Some machines have a recommended bracket for mounting the radio. These brackets are not required, but are recommended.
4. Make sure to follow the entire process until the device performs a successful communication check.
5. If the device is not communicating, refer to UENR6983 to troubleshoot a PL241, refer to UENR5823 to troubleshoot a PLE641, and refer to UENR5824 to troubleshoot a PL641. Please complete a successful communication check before leaving the machine.
6. After the installation is complete, connect up to the machine using Cat ET, and take a Product Status Report (PSR).
7. Once the installation is completed please send all required documents to your PL Technical Communicator and make sure the Radio MAC address is among that documentation.
8. Contact your local PL administrator to deactivate the current legacy device by canceling the subscription from the VisionLink store.
9. Wait one hour after the subscription is canceled and machine history is canceled. The PL Administrator must then subscribe their new Telematics device. Log into the Dealer Service Portal and validate the equipment serial number and ownership in the Equipment Data System. Locate the equipment by the machine Serial Number. Confirm the customer, equipment data, and desired subscription level. Additional information and training can be located at www.dealer.cat.com/pl
Note: The wait time may vary during different times of the day.
Note: To have your software updated on PL241, create a System Technology Service Request and submit to Caterpillar. State that you would like to have the software on your PL241 updated, along with acknowledgment of customer consent. The DSN Tier 2 analysts will have the software on your radio updated. Please put FOTA in the Problem Description to help expedite the process.

Note: K-Series Medium Wheel Loaders require that a PL522 or PL523 hardware set remain installed in the machine to support Payload Control System. The final installation will include the PL522 ECM and the PL641 Product Link Pro radio.
