1. Remove three bolts (1) and washers and reposition left light assembly (2) out of the way.2. Remove two bolts (3) and reposition refrigerant hoses (4) out of the way.3. Remove four bolts and washers (7) holding the two guard assemblies (5) to each other.4. Remove eight bolts and washers (6) holding two guard assemblies (5) to the radiator enclosure.5. Remove guard assemblies (5). 6. Fasten a nylon strap to fan spider assembly (14), and support with a hoist as shown.
At operating temperature, the engine cooling system is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap on the radiator is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
7. Drain the coolant into a suitable container, and disconnect three hoses (8) from the top of the radiator. The capacity of the cooling system is 60.6 liters (11 gal).8. Loosen four clamps (12) and remove two aftercooler tubes (13).9. Remove remaining five bolts and washers (10) and remove upper left shield assembly (9).10. Loosen six bolts and washers (11), holding fan spider assembly (14). 11. Remove three bolts and washers (18) and reposition right light assembly (15) out of the way.12. Remove remaining five bolts and washers (19) and remove upper right shield assembly (20).13. Remove ten bolts and washers (17) and remove top fan shield assembly (16).14. Remove six bolts and washers (11) from fan spider assembly (14).
Do not damage the radiator core when the fan spider assembly is removed from the machine.
15. Use the hoist to raise fan spider assembly (14) from the machine. The fan spider assembly weighs 13.6 kg (60 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the fan assembly.16. Use a hoist to reposition fan assembly (14).17. Reverse the steps and procedures 1 through 14 to complete the installation of the fan assembly.18.
