Measure the tension of the belt that is farthest from the engine.
(1) Initial Belt Tension refers to a new belt.
(2) Used Belt Tension refers to a belt that has been in operation for 30 minutes or more at the rated speed.Install Tooling (A) at the center of the longest free length of belt and check the tension on both belts. Check and adjust the tension on the tightest belt. To adjust the belt tension, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Install".Poly V-Belt
Ensure that the engine is stopped before any servicing or repair is performed.
To maximize the engine performance, inspect the poly v-belt (1) for wear and for cracking. Replace the poly v-belt if the belt is worn or damaged.
If the poly v-belt (1) has more than four cracks per 25.4000 mm (1 inch) the belt must be replaced.
Check the poly v-belt of cracks, splits, glazing, grease, and splitting.
