Information:

These oil cooler core assemblies are installed using similar procedures. The 9N3586 Oil Cooler Core Assembly has studs to hold it to the oil cooler base. It is important that the correct torque be used on the stud nuts or damage can occur to the cooler. The 7W1762 and 9N5233 Oil Cooler Core Assemblies do not have studs to hold them to the base. 1 Remove oil cooler cover (1), the former oil cooler and the gaskets. If the former oil cooler core assembly is equipped with studs (5) [to fasten it to the base] and the new oil cooler core does not, the oil cooler base must be modified; see oil cooler base modification (page 3).2 Install divider (2) [except 7W1762 Core Assembly] on new oil cooler core assembly (3) from the side opposite hole (A). Install divider (2) between the fifth and sixth plates from the flange, with offset (B) on the top. Make sure the divider is installed evenly around the core plates so that it makes a good seal against the cover. Install gaskets (4) with index point (C) toward the top (left side) as shown. Install the oil cooler assembly. On the 9N3586 Oil Cooler Core Assembly, install the nuts on studs (5). Tighten the nuts a torque to 22 3 N m (16 2 lb ft); do not over-tighten.Modification Of Oil Cooler Base
When a cooler core assembly without studs replaces an oil cooler core assembly with studs, an oil leak may occur if this modification is not completed.
2 Drill two 14.5 mmØ (.571"Ø) hole (E), 21.0 mm (.83") in depth; tap holes (E) 11.0 mm (.44") deep with a 3/8" NPT tap. Drill one 11.2 mmØ (.441"Ø) hole (F), 21.5 mm (.85") in depth; tap hole (F) 11.0 mm (.44") deep with a 1/4 NPT tap.3 Put 5P3413 Sealant on the threads of three plugs (4B4845, 5M6213), and install the plugs in holes (E) and (F). The plugs must not extend beyond the mounting surface of the oil cooler assembly.4 Clean the oil cooler base, and install the cooler base on the engine.
