Information:

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Escaping fluid under pressure, even a pinhole size leak, can penetrate body tissue, causing serious injury, and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Operational Checks
Note: Operate the machine in each direction and in all speeds. Note the noises that are not normal and find the sources of the noises. If the machine is not operating correctly, refer to the "Troubleshooting Problem List" below.Note: When turning a corner, the sound of component disengagement and re-engagement may be audible, and the transfer of driving torque from both wheels to one wheel may be noticeable. When going from drive (acceleration) to coast (deceleration) in a turn, a "metallic" sound may be heard as torque flow is reversed (inside wheel engaged during acceleration; outside wheel engaged during deceleration).Troubleshooting Problem List
There is constant noise in the differential.
Noise occurs in the differential at different intervals.
Noise only occurs during turns.
Lubricant is leaking.
The drive wheels do not turn but the universal joint turns.Probable Causes of Problems in the Differential and Final Drive
Problem: There is constant noise in the differential.Probable causes:
The level of lubricant is incorrectly high or low.
The wrong type of lubricant is being used.
Wheel bearings are damaged or improperly adjusted.
The bevel gear and the pinion do not have correct tooth contact.
The bevel gear and the pinion are damaged or worn.
There is too much pinion to bevel gear backlash or too little pinion to bevel gear backlash.
Pinion bearings are loose or worn.
Side bearings are loose or worn.Problem: Noise occurs in the differential at different intervals.Probable causes:
Bevel gear does not run evenly because the bolts on the bevel gear are not tight or the bevel gear is warped.
Differential bearings are loose
