( 1 ) Tool (A) is a 46 mm socket.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Place clean engine oil on the crankshaft main bearings prior to assembly. Do not put oil on the back sides of the crankshaft main bearings.Note: Use Tool (A) to rotate the crankshaft.Note: The main bearing clearance for new bearings must be 0.050 to 0.110 mm (0.0020 to 0.0043 inch). The maximum permissible clearance with used bearings is 0.200 mm (0.008 inch).

Use the following steps to install the upper half of the crankshaft main bearings (3) :
Place the end of the upper bearing, which is opposite the bearing tab, into the bearing housing of the cylinder block, which has the tab groove.
Slide the upper bearing into the housing until the bearing is in the correct position.
If the crankshaft is turned in the wrong direction, the tab of the crankshaft main bearing will be pushed between the crankshaft and the cylinder block. this can cause damage to either or both the crankshaft and the cylinder block.
If necessary, carefully rotate the crankshaft in order to position the upper half of crankshaft main bearings.Note: Ensure that the main bearing tab fits in the tab groove of the crankshaft main bearing cap and the bearing housing of the cylinder block.
Repeat Steps 1.a through 1.c for the installation of the remaining upper main bearings.

Install the lower halves of the crankshaft main bearings in crankshaft main bearing caps (2) .Note: Ensure that the main bearing tab fit in the tab groove of the crankshaft main bearing cap and the bearing housing of the cylinder block.

Install crankshaft main bearing caps (2) in position on the cylinder block. Put clean engine oil or Molylube on the bolt threads of the main bearing cap bolts. Note: Ensure that the crankshaft main bearing caps are installed in the original locations. The crankshaft main bearing caps are marked "1" through "6" and the caps have arrows that point to the front of the engine block.

Install thrust washers (4) into the rear main cap and the cylinder block.Note: Install the thrust washers to the rear of the face of the crankshaft with the oil grooves toward the outside.
Install rear main bearing cap (6) and two seals (5) on the rear journal of the cylinder block.
Install main bearing cap bolts (1). Tighten the bolts evenly to a torque of 103 5 N m (76 4 lb ft).
Cut off the excess length on seals (5).
Check for free crankshaft rotation by turning the crankshaft for two complete revolutions.

Check the end play of the crankshaft with Tool (B). The end play must be 0.100 to 0.264 mm (0.0039 to 0.0104 inch). Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Basic
