Installation Procedure
Illustration 1.
Illustration 2.In order for a proper fit, you must check the location of two chain links (A). If installed as shown in Illustration 1, remove two chain links (A) from the bottom, rear of the fuel tank before installing the tank onto the machine. If installed as shown in Illustration 2, then go to the next step.
Do not apply final assembly torque to the bolts holding the retaining strap onto the tank support, until the tank supports are secure.1. Remove the hood and the fuel tank from the machine. If the machine is equipped with an auxiliary fuel tank, proceed to Step 2. If the machine is not equipped with an auxiliary fuel tank, proceed to Step 4.
Illustration 3. (1) Fuel transfer hose(2) Clamp(3) Tube(4) Hose clamp(5) Hose2. Remove the components shown in Illustration 2 if the machine is equipped with an auxiliary fuel tank. Retain the clamps for Step 3.
Illustration 4. (2) Clamp(4) Clamp(6) 168-5083 Hose3. Install the 168-5083 Hose as shown in Illustration 3. Assemble the hose to the auxiliary fuel tank by using the clamps that were removed in Step 2. Leave the clamps loose until both ends of the hose are installed. Make sure the hose assembly in Illustration 4 is routed as to not interfere or rub against any other components. Use a hoist to lift the 170-0000 Fuel Tank into position. Before removing the hoist or securing the tank, make the remaining connection of the 168-5083 Hose to the new fuel tank. Use the clamps that were removed in Step 2. Once clamps are tightened, proceed to Step 5.
Illustration 5.4. For machines that are not equipped with an auxiliary fuel tank, make sure that plug (7) and O-ring (9) are installed. Then, use a hoist to lift the 170-0000 Fuel Tank into position.
Illustration 6. (H) Bolt(J) Washer(K) Spring(L) Washer (Belleville)5. Loosen bolt (B) for the tank retaining strap. Tighten bolts (9) and (10). Reuse the existing hardware. Then, apply Locite (red) to bolt (B) and tighten to a torque of 32 7 N m (24 5 lb ft). Make sure that all of the hardware is installed as shown in Illustration 6 (detail G).6. Reinstall all of the lines and covers on the left side of the machine. Replace the 134-4142 cover with 168-5084 Guard (11). See Illustration 5.
Illustration 7. (13) Washer(14) Bolt(15) Shield(16) Washer(17) Bolt7. Install the 171-2563 Shield (12) as shown in Illustration 6. Use the hardware that held the former shield on the former tank. Reinstall the remaining pieces on the right side.8. Reinstall the hood. The hood position may need to be adjusted slightly from the original position.
