Connect chain (23) to new handrail (12). Use a new locknut (18).

Install hydraulic tank cover (31) and fender side guard (32).
Reinstall the bracket (27) for the mirror with the mirrors.Rework of the Supporting Legs of the Handrails at the Rear of the Left Side Fender and the Handrails on Right Side Fender
Note: Clean all parts and inspect all parts. Replace any worn parts or damaged parts with new Caterpillar parts.

Install on one side of the machine then on the other side of the machine. Perform the following to rear left side handrail (38) and right side handrail (40):
Attach suitable lifting equipment to the handrail.
Remove the bolts and washers that secure the handrail to the machine. Retain the bolts and washers for later use.Note: Leave brackets (39) attached to the handrails.Note: For handrail (38), disconnect the chain (not shown) from the handrail.
Use the lifting equipment to lift the handrail onto suitable cribbing.

Remove the bolts and washers that secure brackets (39) to the legs of handrail (38) and handrail (40). Discard the bolts and washers.

Carefully clean any corrosion away from the inside brackets (39) and the legs of handrail (38) and handrail (40). Inspect the brackets and handrails. Replace the components that show signs of wear or damage in any way with new Caterpillar replacement parts.Note: For handrail (38), disconnect chain (23) from the handrail.

Reinstall brackets (39) to the legs of handrail (38) and handrail (40). Secure the brackets in place with new bolts (20) and new hard washers (19).

Install on one side of the machine then on the other side of the machine. Perform the following to rear left side handrail (38) and right side handrail (40):
Attach suitable lifting equipment to the handrail.
Use the lifting equipment to position the handrail to the machine.
Install the bolts and washers that secure the handrail to the machine.Note: For handrail (38), reconnect the chain (not shown) to the handrail. Use a new locknut.

Use 185-3986 Sealant in order to seal up the gap between each handrail and each bracket (39). Ensure that a sufficient amount of sealant is used around the gap at the top of the brackets to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the handrails. This will protect the area of the joint between the handrail and the bracket.
