This diagnostic code is associated with the "Transmission Pump Bypass" solenoid. The FMI 03 diagnostic code means that the "Transmission/Chassis ECM" has determined that the voltage of the solenoid circuit is above normal. The possible causes of the diagnostic code are listed below:
The solenoid has failed.
The energize circuit of the solenoid is shorted to the +battery circuit.
The "Transmission/Chassis ECM" has failed. This is unlikely.Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 3210 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.Use a calibrated digital multimeter for the following procedures.System Response:The diagnostic code of CID 3210 FMI 03 will be logged in the internal memory of the "Transmission/Chassis ECM".Test Step 1. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE SOLENOID FOR A SHORT TO THE +BATTERY CIRCUIT.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Disconnect the wires from the back of the connector at the ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the "Transmission/Chassis ECM", measure the voltage from contact 1 (wire X961-GY(Grey)) to frame ground. At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, measure the voltage from contact 2 (wire K927-BU(Blue)) to frame ground. Expected Result:The voltage is 0 VDC. Results:
OK - There are no shorts in the wires. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - A voltage is present in the wires. There is a short in the machine harness or in the wires. The short is to a separate voltage source.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness. For information on testing for short circuits and finding short circuits, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Wiring Harness (Short Circuit) - Test". Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE RETURN CIRCUIT OF THE SOLENOID FOR A SHORT TO +BATTERY.
The key start switch remains in the OFF position.
The solenoid remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Reconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 to the "Transmission/Chassis ECM".
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
At the machine harness for the solenoid, measure the voltage between the contact for wire K927-BU(Blue) and frame ground. Expected Result:The voltage is approximately 0.0 0.5 DCV.Results:
OK - The voltage is approximately 0.0 0.5 DCV. The voltage is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The measurement of the voltage is greater than 0. The short is between wire K927-BU(Blue) and the ground contact
