Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Do not release the nitrogen from the steering accumulator unless the steering accumulator will be disassembled.
Note: Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent system contamination.Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned in order to prevent system contamination.
Place a suitable container under the steering accumulator in order to collect hydraulic oil for storage or disposal. Place a suitable container under the hydraulic oil tank in order to collect the hydraulic oil for storage or disposal. Remove plug (1) from the ecology drain at the bottom of the hydraulic oil tank. Drain the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic oil tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the hydraulic oil tank is 38 L (10 US gal).
