Remove bolts (3) and retainer (1). Remove seal (2) from retainer (1).

Remove bearing cone (8) from pinion housing (6). Remove bearing cups (9) and (10) from pinion housing (6).Assembly Procedure
Pinion (Locking Differential)

Use a suitable press to press bearing cups (9) and (10) into pinion housing (6). Verify that bearing cups (9) and (10) are fully seated in pinion housing (6). Lubricate bearing cups (9) and (10) with clean oil.

Use a suitable press to install bearing cone (7) onto shaft (5). Verify that bearing cone (7) is fully seated on shaft (5). Lubricate bearing cone (7) with clean oil.

Assemble shaft (5) into pinion housing (6). Install bearing cone (8) onto shaft (5). Allow some end play to exist. Allow bearing cone (8) to cool to room temperature if the temperature of bearing cone (8) was raised for installation. Lubricate bearing cone (8) with clean oil.

Set the rolling torque of the pinion. Secure pinion housing (6) in a holding fixture. Install retainer (1) and bolts (3). Do not install the lip seal in this step. Install spacer (4), yoke (14), shims (13), retainer, (12) and bolt (11). Tighten bolt (11) to a torque of 105 20 N m (77 15 lb ft).
Measure the rolling torque of the pinion shaft. Add or subtract shims to achieve a rolling torque that is between .7 N m (6 lb in) and 1.4 N m (12 lb in).
Remove bolt (11), retainer (12), shims (13), and yoke (14).

Lubricate the sealing lip of seal (2) with clean oil. Install seal (2) into retainer (1). Apply Tooling (A) to retainer (1). Install retainer (1) and bolts (3). Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 28 7 N m (20 5 lb ft).End By:
