Connections of the Water Valve Controller
This diagnostic code is associated with the Water Valve Controller. The water valve controller is powered by the A16 fuse in the switched upper fuse panel. The FMI 06 diagnostic code is activated when the Relay Driver Module detects an above normal current for the controller signal circuit. This diagnostic code is activated on the Machine ECM via CAN Datalink.The following conditions that cause the diagnostic code to be active are listed below:
The energize circuit of the controller is shorted to a ground source.
The controller has failed.
The Relay Driver Module has failed. This condition is unlikely. Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE ACTUATOR
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code.
Disconnect the water valve controller from the machine harness. Expected Result:The active CID 2662 FMI 06 diagnostic code changes to a CID 2662 FMI 05 diagnostic code when the controller is disconnected.Results:
OK - The active CID 2662 FMI 06 diagnostic code changes to a CID 2662 FMI 05 diagnostic code when the controller is disconnected. The controller signal circuit in the machine harness is correct.Repair: The controller has failed. Repeat this test "CHECK THE ACTUATOR" in order to verify the controller failure. Replace the water valve controller.STOP
NOT OK - The CID 2662 FMI 06 diagnostic code remains active. Disconnecting the controller did not change the status of the active diagnostic code. The controller is not causing the problem. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE ACTUATOR FOR A SHORT TO GROUNDThe solenoid remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 from the Relay Driver Module.
At the machine harness connector of the Relay Driver Module, measure the resistance between the signal contact J1-25 (wire A526-PK(Pink)) and frame ground. Measure the resistance between the signal contact J1-25 (wire A526-PK(Pink)) and each of the other circuits that are used in J1 RDM connector.
While the resistance measurements are observed, perform the following:
Wiggle the machine harness connectors for the RDM.
Wiggle the machine harness connectors for the solenoid.
Gently pull on the wires and wiggle the wires.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms at all times during the manipulation of the harness and connectors.Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than
