Industrial, Marine, And Generator Set EnginesLate last year the computerized Product Information System was introduced to U.S. and Canadian Caterpillar dealers and to a few COSA dealers. Several other Caterpillar dealers also have access to this system via Telex into the Worldwide Information System.
The benefits of this system will not be fully realized if it is not kept up-to-date. Each Caterpillar dealer can do this by getting the changes from his users and/or TEPS dealers, and updating the system on his own computer terminal. Ask users and/or TEPS dealers in your territory to inform you when they make a major addition or modification to an engine, or when they sell or dispose of an engine. Let them know you are always interested in this type of information on their engines, and that this important data is entered into the Product Information System by many Caterpillar Dealers.
Caterpillar dealers with the Product Information System can update the product data on engines that have been built in the last 11 years. For example, attachments or major components can be added or deleted as shown in Illustration 1. Refer to the Users Manual SEBD0631-01 in the section titled "Inquiry Serial Number To Prime Mover".
Illustration 1. This screen lists the major components on the engine. Caterpillar dealers can change this listing if assemblies or groups are added to or removed from the engine.
Illustration 2. This screen lists the owner's name and address. Caterpillar dealers can change this too if necessary.If the engine changes owners or is moved to a different address, this information can also be updated by Caterpillar dealers. Use the section titled "Inquiry Serial Number To Customer Name/Address". Illustration 2 shows an example of this information on the computer screen.
