1. The "C" marks (1) on the camshaft and crankshaft gears are put in alignment to gain access for the removal of camshaft bolts and lock. 2. Bend the tabs on lock and remove bolts (3) and lock (2). 3. Pull camshaft out of the cylinder block and remove thrust washer (4).4. Remove the bolts that hold the camshaft gear (5) to the camshaft and remove the gear.Install Camshaft
Typical Example1. Turn the fuel injection pump drive gear until timing pin (A) can be installed in the notch in the fuel injection pump camshaft. The fuel injection pump is in correct time.2. Install the camshaft drive gear on the camshaft. The gear will fit on the shaft one way only. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 54 7 N m (40 5 lb.ft.).3. Put 2P2506 Thread Lubricant on the camshaft lobes only. Put clean engine oil on the bearing journals of the camshaft. 4. If the "C" marks (1) on the camshaft and crankshaft gears are not in alignment, install the crankshaft pulley bolt with extra washers in the crankshaft and turn the crankshaft so the "C" mark on the crankshaft will be in alignment with the "C" mark on the camshaft gear when the camshaft is installed. The number 1 piston is now at top center compression position. 5. Carefully install camshaft (3) in the cylinder block with the "C" mark on the camshaft gear in alignment with the "C" mark on the crankshaft gear. It can be necessary to turn the crankshaft a very small amount to install the camshaft.6. Be sure "C" marks (1) on the crankshaft gear and camshaft gear are in alignment.
